One of Puerto Vallarta's most agreeable budget accommodations, the family-run Hotel Hortencia offers 20 very good, clean rooms on three floors, all set around a plain, open courtyard. For a place with few frills, the rooms are thoughtfully presented.Each room has a desk, large mirrors, refrigerator, cable TV and fan. The front rooms suffer from a fair amount of street noise, but from the small balconies one is rewarded with a good vantage point over the lively neighborhood. The more expensive rooms have air con; one features a kitchen. In the small lobby, you'll probably find most of the family sitting around waiting to serve you. Solo travelers are made to feel especially welcome; the spacious interior courtyard is a swell place to meet other ramblers.
