A Portland institution, the Heathman offers a hip yet classy atmosphere and an award-winning restaurant. There's high tea in the afternoons and jazz in the evenings, and each luxurious room is decorated with original works by Pacific Northwest artists.

Portland's elite don't stay here - but their relatives do. The historic Heathman offers some of the best lodging in the city, all wrapped up in an eclectic retro-classic style. On display is a wide variety of art, from a 19th-century Japanese screen to Art Deco mirrors to French landscapes to Andy Warhol's endangered animals silk screens, one for every floor). Smart rooms are wonderfully cushy and come with waffle robes and French press coffee. There's also a book library (complete with librarian), a 400-movie DVD library and a small fitness centre. The restaurant is one of Portland's best, the Marble Bar is a truly awesome place to hang out and service is top-notch.
