Address: 5736 ne 33rd ave, Concordia (northeast portland) , Portland 97211, Usa Show on map
Occupying a converted elementary school, the Kennedy School is a Portland classic. Not only do guests sleep in former classrooms, they drink house-brewed pints in the former detention room, soak in the 102°F soaking pool and devour pizza while lounging on sofas and watching movies in what used to be the gymnasium. Class act, eh?Simply put, there's nothing like the Kennedy School. What other (non-McMenamins) institution boasts lodgings, a restaurant, community meeting rooms, a theatre (serving pizza and beer), three bars, a brewery, a soaking pool, a gift shop and a funkified art museum all under one roof? None. This cornerstone of the McMenamin brothers' quirky architectural empire shines above the rest. The extensive halls now sport curving carpets and art-covered walls. The guest rooms have huge windows, old chalkboards and original closets, yet are tastefully furnished for overnight stays. It's the kind of place locals bring out-of-town guests for a Portland experience, usually consisting of gourmet burgers (check out the garden courtyard), microbrewed beer and family fun. Whether you sleep here or not, it's a requisite experience.
