Address: Dervaig rd, Dervaig , Isle of mull PA75 6QF, Scotland
There aren't too many guesthouses in Scotland where you'll find pad thai noodles on the breakfast menu, but you'll find exactly that at Achnadrish, an upmarket B&B set in an old shooting lodge. It's one Mull's best places to stay. The welcoming owner spends a lot of his time in Southeast Asia and has filled this venerable building with tasteful handicrafts, art and literature from the region. Elegant Indochinese fabrics adorn the rooms, where small Buddhas watch over guests' slumbers. The house itself has personality, with curious shapes, sloping floors and bags of space. The rooms are great, and adaptable to the needs of families. Downstairs there's a fabulous lounge, where you can swap stories over whisky by the fire, as well as a beautiful breakfast room with soothing music. There are three ultra-friendly (and ubiquitous) Labradors; it's that sort of relaxed retreat. There's also a self-catering cottage attached, which sleeps up to six and has handsome original features, including the steep stair to what was once the hayloft.
