The people who brought you the hippie, cross-country party-on-a-bus also run this earthy, fun and well-kept hostel overlooking Pike Place Market. The location is just the first of a list of features to please the budget traveler.

At the Tortoise, you'll get a free continental breakfast seven days a week, dinner three nights a week, free internet access, discounts to local attractions, a big-screen TV and even a place to burn your digital images to CD. Curtains around each bunk provide a modicum of privacy, and a reading light inside means you can still do what needs to be done. The hostel's new location isn't far from the old one (just around the corner), but it's a tortoise, OK? There are between four and eight beds in each dorm room, all with shared bath. Bed linens are provided, but BYO lock. If you don't have your own towel you can rent one.
