Address: 900 madison st , Seattle 98104, United states Show on map
The Sorrento Hotel was Seattle's finest hotel when it was built in 1909 for the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition. Thanks to continual refurbishing, this beautiful Italian Renaissance-style hotel remains plush, bejeweled with chandeliers and lined with mahogany, and one of the city's best. The lavish and cozy rooms feature big, fluffy beds with 400-thread-count sheets and seven (count 'em) types of pillows and a menu guide to each. The Sorrento's owner is in the music business, so the in-room CD player is stocked with music for you to play. The hotel gets its share of celebrities, including Tracy Chapman, k.d. lang and Kelly Clarkson. Business travelers are well cared for with free wireless internet, in-room fax/scanner/printers and a desk full of office supplies. The only drawback we find is that there are no comparably upscale restaurants or nightspots within the immediate vicinity, apart from those inside the hotel. For that you have to go downtown (an easy walk downhill but a slog back up) or to Capitol Hill. If you're in a car or don't mind catching a taxi, you'll be fine.
